Today marks the 25th Annual Meat Out, are you participating? If so, how. If not, but are wanting to partake, below are a few tips.

1. First tell your friends about it or get your family involved. This way it’s more fun.
2. It’s alot easier than you think. Going meatless is not about sacrifice but about creative meal eating.
Foods to Try:
- Pizza (easy choice – pile on delish but healthy veggies, such as spinach broc cauliflower mushrooms tomatoes and exotic cheeses)
- Pinto Bean Burrito’s
- Chickpeas in Yellow Rice (and green beans)
- Black Bean Burgers (homemade is best, but store bought is fine too)
- Whole Wheat Bow Tie Pasta (with your face sauce)
- Sweet Potato and Spinach Lasagna (yummo!)
- Mexican Kidney Beans and Rice Enchiladas (so good)
- Any recipe from the Fat Free Vegan Kitchen blog
- For dessert – try to get a hold of some fresh seasonal fruits, then sprinkle or dip in chocolate (kids will love it)
- Champagne (celebrate with a glass of the bubbly stuff)
Veg out today and feel free to try something totally new, maybe that scrumptious vegetarian recipe you found last month on Recipe Zaar that you didn’t get a chance to make. Try it tonite.
AND NOW, A RANT
Why do some people get all bent out of shape when the mere mention of not eating meat is addressed? The reactions don’t add up. I don’t get it. If you visit that link and scroll down to the bottom to the comments area you will notice two asshats signed into the site specifically to leave those two lame ass comments. One mentions he is happy the UPS man arrived with his Omaha steaks and the other idjit took the time for this lovely commentary,
Eliminating meat from one’s OWN diet is a *choice* adults are entitled to make. There is no such entitlement allowing some to make that choice for others, and CERTAINLY no right to force others to comply. God didn’t give humans our twelve pointy teeth for leaves, and I for one intend to keep using them for their natural purpose as long as I have them.
I see this time and time again on various sites and blogs. People (who probably normally don’t even comment otherwise), FEEL THIS ABSOLUTE NEED to shout out that they don’t want to be forced to not eat meat, and in the process show supremely ignorant they truly are.
No one is forcing anyone to do anything. I read that article and nowhere is the writer forcing and or demanding that people go vegetarian. It is a choice, like any other. And one that cant be forced. I didn’t become a vegetarian, because someone FORCED me to. I did it of my own free will.
If you see an article or site or blog that is of a vegetarian nature and you don’t want to stop eating meat, why are you there? Why do you bother leaving dumb, inappropriate and completely unnecessary comments on said articles. Go to meat.com instead
Is it because you know that killing millions of animals every year, excuse the fuck out of me, correction BILLIONS of animals every year for your precious Omaha steaks has given you a guilty conscience? Yeah, i think that explains the anger and BS that comes out of asshats like the two in the article above.

i am in complete agreement with your rant. i was so dissapointed with the reaction i got from coworkers when i brought up that today was meat out day. people know i’m a vegetarian, and generally don’t say much about it. but at the mere mention of today being meat out day, so many people seemed to have something to say about how they have incisors for a reason. i hate lecturing, but i felt like going into the environmental and health consequences to them. the anger they spoke with really bothered me. i am all about openess and tolerance, and it really bothers me when other people can’t seem to act in a respectful manner.
btw, i just found your blog last night. i really like what i saw and included it in my post on meat out day as a cool vegetarian blog. kudos.
Hi, Rebecca:
Hey, first thanks for the link to my site on your blog. Appreciate it. Sorry about the reaction from your co-workers, it is kind of weird to me, why some people are not only put off by vegetarianism but completely offended by it. Why? Why are people offended at others who choose to live a more compassionate life? It’s nuts. Like i said above, “i don’t get it”.
Anywho, i guess we will just have to deal with others who LOVE to react, instead of think. Weehoo!
P.S. Blogs are awesome mouthpieces for a devilishly good rant. Yes? Thanxs for reading mine and commenting.
P.S.S. Have a great day!
I just found your blog too, and I had to comment on your rant, because I see it happening all the time. I normally don’t even mention that I am a vegetarian; usually it only comes up if I go to a restaurant with new people or something. I know quite a few veggies, and can say with certainty that the stereotype of the obnoxious, in-your-face vegetarian is entirely fictional. But often the people I mention it to get immediately defensive and feel the need to talk about how they will be ordering a big juicy steak or something.
I want to shout, “I DON’T CARE YOU INSECURE CAVEMAN!” but I feel that would be off-putting. LOL. But really, I think some people just feel threatened by anyone who is different, whether it be skin color, language, or food preference. To some, if you don’t follow the herd (mind the pun), then you are some freak of nature to be ostrasized. It’s kind of weird in that I feel the same way when religion comes up and I say I am an atheist. People hate for their values or opinions to be questioned…
Anyway, nice blog! I will be following from now on.
Hi, Rachel:
I’m with you. And maybe we should shout out “i don’t care – you insecure cavemen/women” to those who are abit on the uptight side. LoL. Yeah let’s do that. (hehe)
And yes being different is and always will be a special place for ignoramuses to throw a party. Ah why sweat the small stuff. As long as those who are afraid of “the different” stay away from me, we are good.
Thanxs for finding me. Hope to see you again!
PS I am also blogging about my vegetarian experience, and would really appreciate any feedback on my blog!
Hi, Crystal: Sure will check out your blog. Thx for coming by!
