I feel what they feel, and i’m nowhere near as entrenched as they are. They as in those you quoted.

I can easily go to any of your blogs, pull out a quote, and make all sorts of judgements and or assumptions based on that alone. But i think you would agree with me, that it isn’t THE WHOLE PICTURE. There is so much passion in animal rights. It really is a pretty hard core subject, and one with many different viewpoints.

I would never discount the work of PETA, or other animal activists. As they deal with the stuff, that we can’t fathom. I think that some do go to extremes, but i’m still not going to discount these people either, because i still value their input and passion.

Who is to say, what is enough? Who is to decide what is allowed and what is not allowed, in the name of animal safety and care? Not me. I’m not in the trenches, like they are. I don’t see what they see day in and day out.

Most animal rights activists are very burned out. They need our support, not our judgements.

That is quite different than saying people should not have a dog or cat. Plus that article was from 1988. But i would contend, that PETA president Ingrid Newkirk has seen more ugliness in her tenure as an animal rights activist, than most people see in a lifetime.

You can’t really trump PETA with me. Yes they can be kooky, and yes sometimes their methods are quite controversial, but i still support their hard work.

They are quite strong-willed (maybe even militant) when it comes to animal rights, because they KNOW that no matter how hard they try, how much money they spend, how many controversies they create. Animal suffering will continue.

For this reason, i support them and applaud them.

She doesn’t even believe any person in the world should be able to own a cat or dog:
“The bottom line is that people don’t have the right to manipulate or to
breed dogs and cats … If people want toys, they should buy inanimate
objects. If they want companionship, they should seek it with their own
kind…….. …. “I don’t use the word ‘pet.’ I think it’s speciest
language.
I prefer ‘companion animal.’ We would no longer allow… pet shops…
Eventually companion animals would be phased out.”
