Wheelchairs For Pets Featured on The Today Show.

On the Today Show this morning, a couple was profiled, who create wheelchairs for pets. It was a heart- breaking piece to see a series of dogs and cats in wheelchairs. But reality is these attachments make disabled pets mobile and independent again.

Wheelchairs for Dogs

I don’t know how my girl Cuba, would take to the idea of a wheelchair, if something were to happen to her, but the fact that the option exists is comforting. The wheelchairs go for between $300 and $500, price varies by size. I love how this couple turned a hobby into a business, Eddies Wheels, that really caters to the most devoted of pet owners.

My girl Cuba approves!

Pet accessories and services are sure becoming a lucrative niche market I think. First wheelchiars and then I saw an article in this weekend’s paper about, wait for it, plastic surgury for pets. Apparently some vets now offer services like liposuction and teeth whitening for pets! Crazy :)

I’ve seen many dogs in wheel chairs, and they all get along so great!! I have great respect for people deciding to let their pets live wonderful long lives in wheel chairs rather than cutting their lives drastically short.

It’s awesome how much medical technology has improved for people, but people often don’t realize how much is done for animals too. It’s amazing that they were able to make a wheelchair like this to help the dog and that it is fine with it. I have known people with pets missing a leg and they seemed to adapt ok, but help like this is phenomenal.

This type of technology is especially important for dogs susceptible to back problems, like dauchsands. It can dramatically improve quality of life for large dogs with hip dysplasia and/or arthritis also.
My dauchsand Max is now able to walk around the block and enjoy the heavenly smells left behind by his new friends-to-be. He is not depressed anymore. He’s perky again and it’s such a joy to have my Maxie back. :-)
