Another Athlete Goes Vegetarian, Milwaukee Brewer Prince Fielder
Baseball player Prince Fielder of the Milwaukee Brewers, has decided to try the vegetarian diet, as recent as February of this year.
via - galesburg

Fielder states he went vegetarian last month, when he noticed his wife reading a book on factory farming, picked the book up himself, read it and instantly made his decision to go veggie. He also mentions that he knows he will have to plan his meals proper to meet nutrition needs and also to meet specific athlete nutrition needs.
The Milwaukee Brewers (that i know of) don’t have any other vegetarian players in the team, so it will no doubt be interesting, not to mention a challenge for Fielder, to find locker room food that coincides with his new meatless diet.
There are many vegetarian athletes, in all types of sports, this is not anything new or novel. But it is always snippy to report about those who have “taken on the cause” (so to speak) and chosen to go meat-free. Well done Prince Fielder!

I couldn’t do it if I didn’t know that “American Wholefoods Cuisine” has been making people happy and healthy for more than three decades. Just look at the reader’s comments on HealthyHighways.com I guess this counts as Plug#2
Missy ,
Thanks for the invite. After almost 40 years of writing eleven books to help us all eat better -you don’t know what you are getiing into. The “About” on our website tells the story. But what I’d like to introduce to your readers is a little known food/ingredient commonly called yogurt cheese.
Yogurt cheese (or YoChee) is a wonderful versatile ingredient you can make at home by simply draining your yogurt. It has substantial nutritional benefits ( a creamy food which is low or no fat plus high protein and calcium). You might want to take a look at our book,” Eat Well the YoChee Way” a guide and cookbook to this important food. It really expands the use of yogurt cheese to desserts, main courses and much more. Also nutritional content. Also, the website YoChee.com contains a free yogurt cheese how- to slide show, nutrition information and free recipes
I hope more and more athletes follow suit - after the stories about Tony Gonzalez going veg and his ability to keep up his performance, I think it sheds a positive light on this lifestyle.
I think if an actor is/becomes veg, it’s similar to following Kabbalah or Scientology - it’s considered quirky, and something that only those ‘weird movie stars’ do. “Oh, how cute, Natalie Portman is a vegan…Pamela Anderson is one of those crazy PETA people…” There are a ton of celebrity veg*ns in Hollywood, but nobody seems to care much.
But, if an athlete goes veg, it’s serious business - their bodies are on the line, and I think people see it in a more serious light.
Hi—Lisa:
Athletes need special care and attention when it comes to their nutrition and diet, so when one decides to go veggie and does it successfully, it is always motivational and proves to all, that a vegetarian diet is NOT nutrient deficient.
Hey, thanxs for your visit. Do come again.
Missy.
Congrats to Prince Fielder and his transition to a more positive lifestyle. If there are more successful vegan players on the field then I do believe that there are many more individuals that would follow the same vertical. Great blog… keep up the good work.
Yay that is awesome! I read Diet for a new America, 17 years ago, that’s what turned me. ![]()
