ZenBurger, Worlds First Vegetarian Fast Food Chain in New York
Wish there was a vegetarian fast food joint around the corner? Well there just might be one, if restaurant group Zen Burger, comes to your neck of the woods.

Zen Burger is a NYC vegetarian fast food restaurant aimed at those who are veggie full time (otherwise known as vegetarians), to those who are veggie part time (also known as “flexitarians”). This is a fancy buzzword used to describe a growing group of individuals who eat meat maybe once a week. They embrace the vegetarian diet, but also eat meat, occasionally.

The first Zen Burger is already open in New York, with a second location planned for Hollywood. The founder is aiming to open more loc’s across the nation. I hope Zen Burger is more like Chipotle fast food, than Arby’s fast food. (Sorry Arby’s.) Decide for yourself, check out their menu.
The vegetarian fast food chain (of course) has their own MySpace page set-up, and tons of reviews for and against Zen Burgers.
Some like it, some think the idea needs refinement, others plain didn’t like it. visitor reviews on Zen Burger below:
“I appreciated the retro decor. They only had one vegan choice, and it was one of the worst veggie burgers I’ve had. Their soup was also really weak.” via blogger noam
“I work in Midtown, and I was really excited to finally have a veggie place to eat. I went in yesterday and I had the veggie tuna fish, and it was pretty good. Not the best ever, but pretty tasty. It was hard to beat the price as well, it was $4.25. The service was terrible. I mean the people were very friendly, but it took me over 25 minutes to get my food, while the co-worker I arrived with got her food in 5 minutes flat. I’m certain the service will improve as time goes on, they’ve only been open a few days. I’ll go back if for no other reason than it is the only veggie option in midtown”. via comment by reader on eater

Wow. I really hope these go mainstream. It would be nice to have other options out there. Of course, I’m still wishing for a healthy gluten-free fast food option, but I think that may be too much to ask.
Allie’s last blog post..And It?s Bad for Cows
Allison: They just might, i think the owners plan on expanding. I agree many fast food chians are not veggie friendly. I can believe how veggie unfriendly McDonalds is. Nothing at all for vegetarians, but fries. Jeez!
Jack: sarcasm is always welcome here, no prob. come again.
Allie: thanxs for visiting. i hear ya on the gluten free options.
Hello Everyone in Internetland,
I just came back from Zen Burger with my girlfriend. It was very disappointing. management doesn’t have their act together. The Curry Lentil Soup was ice cold, not even warm. I had to ask them to put it in the microwave. The Zen burger was cold and the tomoto slice on the burger still had the core in it. The Zen hot dog was also cold and very small with a large price of $3.75. The mock tuna sandwich was okay but the roll was just about to go stale. The soda machine was broken, so there was no soda of any kind. The ice tea dispenser had 3 flavors and only two worked. The ice tea was dispensed at room temperature but the ice machine was also broken. The front cashier counter had a beverage spill that no one ever bothered to clean in the 30 minutes that we were there.
I spent approximately $25.00 for lunch for two people. I perdict that unless management gets their act together this place will be out of business in 1 year at the most.

I’ll be sure to re-write the headline as YOU ARE RIGHT, Zen Burger is not the worlds first. Thanxs for keeping me straight and also for introducing me to RedVeg. I’ll get on it.
Missy.
Sounds interesting. Must give it a try when I am in the city next. I live about 2 1/2 hours away now so it’s hard to get there but trying to make it to Green Expo next month.
I have to say though my favorite vegetarian restaurant is Angelika’s Kitchen. It’s divine. Your blog looks great! I need to stop back in more often. ![]()

I am going to have to go and give these guys a try. I won’t let the bad comments scare me just yet as they have just started it seems. I hope it good as this business is needed in NYC

Oh wow, I really hope they come to Houston by the time I get moved down there, that would be amazing. Some chains lime Harvey’s and A&W are offering a veggie pattie, but at the same time, its cooked next to that meat! So its not really pure, ZenBurger has been needed by veggies for a long time!
