Sir Paul McCartney, Vegetarianism, and The Planet

However harsh and inconvenient it may be, eating meat is destroying the planet, there is no denying this scientific fact. With all the food given to and resources used for animals in livestock, we could feed all the humans in the planet. Here is a quote from VegWeb on this matter,  “we feed more than 70 percent of the grains and cereals we grow to farmed animals, and almost all of those calories go into simply keeping the animals alive, not making them grow”.

Here are a few reasons how going vegetarian will help our environment:

By going vegetarian you will help to…

Avoid excessive CO2 production
Reduce methane/nitrous oxide production
Save large amounts of water
Avoid further pollution of our streams/rivers/oceans
Reduce destruction of topsoil & tropical rainforest
Reduce destruction of wildlife habitats & endangered species
Reduce the use of antibiotics, growth promoters and chemicals

The resources used to maintain, grow, and otherwise care for livestock animals, is depleting valuable globally needed water, plants, land, grains, and more. One outspoken celebrity who has been vocal over many years, is Sir Paul McCartney, who is urging folks to go vegetarian as a means to saving the planet.

I am more for vegetarinanism because that animals deserve to have a pleasant stay on this earth. We sing about love & peace in churches, but what about practicing what is preached. Respect for life is what a real human being does have & every being in this world deserves our respect. The ancient ancestors were more civil with animals as the future. Why is that? Who is to plame? What can be done to bring some sense to the people who have lost their way from the true spiritual path for respecting our world. Sincerely with esteem, Gabriele

[...] Vegetarianism has helped me keep my weight under control. I’ve become a lot more health conscious. I now watch my calorie intake and fat grams. I drink more water. I’m close to being vegan. Eggs are still hard to give up. I’ve become more involved with taking care of the environment. I carpool as often as I can. I use rechargeable batteries. I try to conserve energy and water. And I realize that vegetarianism helps preserve our planet. [...]
